Working-class dreamers Jonah and Olaf fish the Brooklyn waters and ponder their glorious plan: buy a big boat and head for sunny Cuba. Then an amoral gangster puts the squeeze on the few bucks they've saved and puts the moves on Jonah's daughter, a restless good girl who'd just as soon be bad. And the two friends, the two gentle souls, begin a new plan: murder.

Wolf Larsen is the tyrannical captain of a freighter, who would rather "reign in Hell than serve in Heaven." He lords over a roughneck recruit, two castaways and his crew in a cruel manner.

Cop Jim Wilson has seen it all on the shadowy streets of New York City, and the experience has cost him his soul. Ironically, his redemption may come in his next case, a brutal murder that brings him into the open sky and white light of the countryside and into the arms of a beautiful blind woman.
