Description
The photographs of artifacts and cites are the usual ones from the usual sources; the imaginative drawings are predictably Victorian or 1960s romantic; the text summarizes the conventional views of the past decades. The difference is the maps, which would be expected from Konstam, whose forte is historical atlases. On nearly every two-page spread, a color map identifies cites where the shown artifacts were found or illustrate matter in the text. The maps are by Roger Kean and the illustrations by Oliver Frey.
